Christian standing for Bunbury mayor

A number of Christians are nominating for positions in our local elections on October 18th.

Gabi Ghasseb is standing for the position of mayor, as well as offering to serve for another term as a councillor for Bunbury City Council. Gabi says, “Our family migrated from Lebanon and Syria to Bunbury 55 years ago. I have been a parishioner of the St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Bunbury since then. I am also a parishioner of the Catholic Diocese in Bunbury, attending mass almost daily, including the Carmelite Monastery in Gelorup.

As a result of my life experiences with God, I am not ashamed of my deep Christian faith, and accordingly place the lit lamp publicly as instructed (Matthew 5:15). I feel a strong biblical obligation to let people know that there is hope in a deeply suffering society. This is part of my response in being obedient to The Great Commission - to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15).”

Please remember all who are standing for election, with thanksgiving and – don’t forget to vote on October 18th!

Bunbury’s CMDFA launched

The Bunbury branch of the Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship of Australia (CMDFA) held its first event on 13 September 2025 on with 24 attendees.

Guest speakers Drs Wayne and Tanuja Martin unpacked the theme The Message: ICU Love -Incarnational, Costly, Undeserved - drawing on John 13:1–17, 1 John 4:9–10, Romans 5:8 and John 3:16.

Attendees were encouraged to reflect on three questions:

 How can I take the initiative?

 What might it cost me?

 Who do I see as the “undeserving” in my workplace?

Please pray that this will form the foundation for ongoing gatherings and a growing network of support and inspiration.
